About Us

Wessels Dance Studio was established in 1992 as a ballet, modern, tap, contemporary, and hip hop dance studio in Montana Park, Pretoria. Since we've opened our doors, we have been training students to become professional dancers and teachers.

We are affiliated with international bodies of ballet, modern, jazz, and tap. We teach Cecchetti ballet, the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing modern, jazz, and tap. We also offer classis in hip hop (SABOD standard), musical theatre, pointe work and classes for dancers of all ages.

At Wessels Dance Studio, we ensure that all our students are trained at a high standard and technique, and we conduct annual examinations to maintain our high standard. Competitions and stage work also form an integral part of training our dancers. We also participate in competitions throughout the year, including the SA Dance Schools Championships, SABOD, and WLDF.

Dance Styles

We teach six different dance styles at Wessels Dance Studio.  Our skilled and dedicated dance teachers aim to inspire and guide students, nurturing their passion and technique with expertise and care.

Classical Ballet

Classical ballet teaches discipline through the use of technique, strength and grace. Ballet is the backbone of all dance genres, where control and alignment is established. At WDS, we follow the internationally-recognized Cecchetti method.

Modern Theatre

Modern Theatre dance is a rhythmic dance style which originated in America. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns, which all need strength and flexibility. At WDS, we follow the ISTD syllabus.

Hip Hop

Hip hop dance refers to the street dance styles primarily performed to hip hop music, or that have evolved as part of hip hop culture. Fun, funky and fresh, a great way to introduce music and dance. We adhere to the SABOD standard of hip hop at the studio.

Our Teachers

Dancing is the loftiest, the most moving, the most beautiful of the arts, because it is not mere translation or abstraction from life itself - it is life itself.
